Well summer has certainly arrived in the last few weeks here in Brisbane and with Melbourne Cup only hours away now, it typically spells the start of the festive season and what can be one of the busier periods of the year for recruitment. As we run into Xmas now is a great time to push hard for the new year and ensure you have secured your next role as a candidate or if you are hiring getting a head of the post xmas rush that will see a spike in requirements and competition for talent.
In terms of activity, we are still seeing a number of key projects in Central Queensland gearing up and building out their maintenance and operational teams to take on additional works. In the west recruitment needs have continued to increase and we are experiencing more and more opportunities presenting themselves for candidates willing to relocate or FIFO from the east coast.
Further to this, we are seeing more companies look at broader strategies that even include hiring extra staff to combat shortages and upcoming requirements coupled with more roles becoming available, due to growth, in middle management roles and key technical areas such as electrical and control system engineering.
Seek data once again indicates this growth year on year in job ads; with mining and resources most recent figures indicating a 19% YOY increase for the month of September.
